Alfa Romeo SUV Concept

It seems that everyone is jumping onto the compact SUV wagon these days, the latest bunch being the people at Alfa Romeo.  Only this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, seeing as they’ve been threatening to do this since 2003.

Placing itself in the same market as the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, Sergio Marchionne (Head Huncho at Fiat and Chrysler) has confirmed that the new compact SUV will be shared between Alfa Romeo and Jeep.  A spokesman for Alfa has said that the new model would be based on the C segment platform that can currently be found under the Giulietta.

It seems that the cars will be built in Italy, at Fiat’s Mirafiori plant in Turin – which has just been given 1.3 billion Euros for a makeover.  280,000 examples are to be built, with 100,000 of those sporting the Alfa badge.

The world’s just going to carry on shrinking at this rate, what with Mini’s not being so, well, mini, and small, sporty Italian cars growing into SUVs.  Looking at what Alfa is showing us though, I hope they stick close to their concept…

Quite impressive from Fiat building car models for Jeep and Alfa Romeo in Italy now. They have definitely done really well with the Italian beauty Alfa Romeo Giulietta, it is very elegant and spacious. The perfect car for small families.
